Default Neck Through Epiphone Newport/Embassy/Coronet?

Hey there Swinging Bass Cases!
I have come across this locally, and am Next in line to buy it, and it looks like it will be mine! Has anyone seen one of these before? I mean, sure, we've ALL seen the Set Neck & Bolt On Necked Epiphones from the 60's & 70's. But this Bad Boy is Neck Through like a Big Dog!!! Any ideas what era it would be form, or what the actual model/series would be? From other posts I see that these surface once in a while. But nothing definitive. Oh, asking price is $250, and it IS missing the Neck Position pickup...

Come on you EpiPhiles! Phill in the Blanks for me!:bassist:

It is a Japanese made bass, that Gibson imported in the very early 70s. With the pup missing and routed out (actually someone tried to make it fit a mudbucker but it had one the same size as the lead pup) I would take a good look at wood loss under there. $250 for one of these with damage - or mods if you are kind - is the top end of what they are worth. This obviously is not a 60s US Newport/Embassy/Coronet bass. These for their day were an ok student level bass, and this would have been as deluxe as it got. I would check the finish over, as it looks like it has been oversprayed/refinned. Not very flat or glossy in the pics. It is an ok beater, but compared to what you could have got from Aria or Ibanez in the same period, it is a waste of money toward a better vintage bass. Nice knobs though, and the tuners would be good for a late 60s Kalamazoo or EB-0 that had ones close to that kind originally. The strap buttons look good too. Good luck - I hope you stay in second place!

Thanks! I actually found someone on TalkBass that has one of these. It's a Late 70's Matsumoko Factory creation. It's an ET-288M model. The neck pup route is Factory. The pup went bad and was removed.

Here's the Story at TB:

Default Epiphone ET-288M

So you bought it? I've halfheartedly bid on these a few times... although it's no Kalamazoo Epiphone, I still like the general look/scratchplate layout etc.
how does it sound?
