Default Gibson G-3 help

I have an early 80s Gibson G-3, natural finish. The problem is the pickups are really wobbly and any adjustments I make with the pickup screws don't really do anything or make it worse.

First of all, whats the fix? Second of all, I want to sell it. Should I fix it and then sell it or sell it as is? Thanks guys!

Default g3

Hi,

have you taken the scratchplate off, in order to look at the underside of the pickups? The pickups have 3 screws going into them - screwing into holes moulded into the pickup covers. The holes are quite fragile - could one (or more) have snapped of? There should be a spring on each screw, pushing the pickups upward... could they have been removed?

If the pickups are damaged you will need to replace them - or do a cunning glue job

You'll certainly get more for it if you repair it, but you will have to wait for parts on ebay (will take some weeks I would have thought, perhaps months)

I'll take it apart and see what I find. I'll let you guys know what I find. It is for sale in the long run if anybody who reads this thread happens to want it, but keep in mind I'm in the States.

like I siad in a post before,

my G3 has the problem that the volume of the E string is too soft compared to the other strings.

I already have tried to raise the pickups at the E side, but that didn't help so much either...

also don't know what to do...any help?

Default Too quiet E

It really is a matter of getting the pickup heights right. Perhaps you should take it to a luthier for a restring and set-up - explaining the - problem. This will be easily fixable, for not too much money - and you should be left with a bass that plays perfectly. Definately worth getting done, if you are unable to work out how to do it yourself, and intend you use this bass.

Hi Jules,

I know how to set up my bass. I already have raised the pickup height on the E string side and lowered it on the G string side. But still the the E string is too soft.
I really like the sound of this bass but that volume difference is annoying me.

Ok, well I'll pop open the Bass here shortly and investigate the innards, see if the wobbly pickups are an easy fix, and then we can talk price tags.
