Hi
I bought a used LP bass about 10 years ago. I just decided to find out a bit more about it and stumbled across these forums. Hi! I've had a quick search here and saw the explaination about dating the LP by the serial number. That makes mine a '91 by the looks of things. I just first wondered if the Bartolini pick ups were standard for their day or maybe added by a previous owner, or if this particular instrument is in anyway different form the standard LP? Any info would be appreciated! I've added a couple of pics. Thanks! Lee ![]()

very nice, but not 91 more like 94 or 95 or 96 with those block inlays,i belive that is an LPB2. the standard or LPB3 has a carved top, binding and chrome TB+ pickups.

I agree. LPB-2 (Les Paul Deluxe). Can't be a '91, they weren't around yet then.
If your serial number appears to be a '91 (first digit 9, fifth digit 1) but the first two digits are 94, then you have a '94. That was Gibson's centennial year and it's an exception to the usual dating rules. The Barts were standard on the LPB-2. |
