Default Gibson G-3 info request

Hi all-

I'm hoping for some background/history on G-3, serial: 70248175, specifically how to determine year manufactured. Assuming the stamped "second" (see pics at link below) refers to some manufacturing problem, though I'm not sophisticated enough to detect anything amiss.

Thanks!

The "secomd" referrs to a blem in manufaturing. I have a "second" grabber myself, and it plays just fine. Looks like you have a nice specimen there. Looks pretty clean. As far as year of manufacture, you can check out gibsonbass.com, they have very comprehensive dating tequniques. But looks like, to me offhand, it is a '78.

Yes the serial says 1978 and the "second" stamp is probably some finish blemish since everyone I've seen who's had one of those never could tell why now when some 30 years passed by. I have 1978 fretless Ripper with "second"-stamp but I have no clue as to what the cause was..
