Default Gibson G-3 Bass on Ebay..Question...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-G-3-Grabber- ... dZViewItem
I found this bass on ebay...I was wondering if anyone knew why the truss rod cover has 3 screws not 2 like most that I see, including one from 1979 that I own...
I am going to bid, but want to make sure that this is a legit bass...
Please let me know.
Thanks!

A G3 in sunburst looks really nice. This bass was already on evilbay two weeks ago. It was sold but now it is on it again?

My G3 also has 3 screws for the trussrod cover. I think that is pretty standard.

yeah I talked to the guy about that, the person who won didn't pay...my girlfriend didn't know what to get me for my birthday so we decided we'd split this to go with the 5 other basses I own haha, I guess you can't ever have enough eh?
thank you for responding though, knowing that you have 3 screws makes me feel better, my 79 has only 2 and I talked to Jules and was informed that 2 was more common, but 3 has been seen.

I guess I'll be bidding enough to make sure the girlfriend and I win haha...
I'm pretty excited even though I just bought an 08 American Fender P (only because I've waited 4 years since buying a black one for a white one to come available...) and the G-3 in black that I bought 3 days later!

good luck bidding. As said before on this forum I am really into the G-3 bass. Everytime I see one Ebay I feel tempted to buy one. But I always(well not always) hold myself back. I don't want to end up with to much stuff. My place already looks like a musicstore.

We made an offer of 750, and was out bid instantly...I'm gonna just keep watching it and see what it does and possibly bid again near the end...
Has anyone seen the "85" that someone was trying to sell on here?
What's the deal with an 85 if the bass wasn't made after 82?

Default '85s

At least 2 seem to have been made in '85. (i've seen 2, both stamped on the same day - June 8th 1985)

This is after the Kalamazoo factory closed; these were made in Nashville - or at least the serial number was stamped in Nashville.

Other than that they are identical to older ones. I can not recall any 83 or 84s.... and they were no longer listed in price lists. This is not to say that they do not exist... After the Kalamazoo factory was closed, a lot of stuff was sent down to Nashville, and these were most likely older left-overs that they finished off and sold. There was no publicity that I am aware of, just using up leftovers.

They are still legit though, correct?
What are they worth in your mind, are they considered a rare piece for the g3 family?

Default G3s

Yes they are legit, and also very rare, but worth exactly the same as any other G3. They are a curiosity, but not any more or less desireable because of it.

Having said this, i've never checked one out, and there is always the possibility of a subtle difference somewhere.

G3s are not quite old enough yet to have people fantical about collecting them. Most owners are very much players....
