Hello, I have a 1978 Ripper and i've been playing it for about 3 months with no problems sound wise. I recently did a bit of recording for a friend of mine and we discovered that there was a problem. When the Ripper was connected to the sound card a hum was present and went away if I touched the strings. I understand this can be a common problem but I'd like to know how this can be fixed. If anyone can give me some feed back that would be great.
Thanks |

Check with an ohm meter to make sure that the bridge has connection to ground. Looks like the yellow wire to the right in this pic is that connection.

Its a 78' ripper so will you pic still apply, as the pick ups are attached to the scratch plate. Thanks

I suspect the mounting method of the pickups would have nothing to do with the wiring. You are still supposed to have a wire attached to a bridge stud. Good luck!

The method of pickup mounting makes no difference to anything
See pics of Ripper wiring here http://www.gibsonbass.com/rippercircuit.php The other end of the wire in question is earthed to the bridge post. If the post 'hole' has been pulled out the contact there could also have been broken. Unlikely but possible, especially if the bass has undergone any kind of restoration. |
