Hi i'm new to this forum but basically wondered if anyone had advice on this. Whilst playing a gig the other day I got a bit carried away - helped no end by a few drinks beforehand - and the end result was breaking my poor thunderbirds body.
I was just wondering if theres any possible way to fix this body or whether i should consider getting a new one. I would prefer to go with the first option, its more sentimental value than any other reason really but if i can't i guess i will just have to look for a replacement. Thanks Rob [img] [/img]

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.
don't worry, that is an easy fix. You can take it to a luthier and get it glued, or simply do it yourself. Shouldn't be a problem at all Surprised it broke there though. I had a Gibson bird that broke there - someone had driven a car over it - what did your stage antics involve? Jules |

You can fix that yourself-
Take the strings off- Get some Tight-bond II wood glue and at least three long bar clamps. Be sure they will have enough room to go across your bass Get a wet rag to wipe away excess glue. Test fit every thing, then apply glue to one side of the crack liberally, Use small wood scraps to camp to and slowly tighten the clamps equally until the seam is closed. Do not over tighten where the board pops loose. Let dry overnight. The bond should be stronger than the wood itself. It's a really easy job to DIY.

Thanks Jules and Redbird, being a bit of a tinkerer of things I did it myself and its just drying now. I'm thinking of refinishing the bass probably in white when I'm finally done modding it, would the glue affect the finish in anyway?
It happened in our last song which is just an improvised stop and start bit of noise and everytime we stop we all fall down, I think it was on the second fall I must of chucked the bass down instead of falling with it, it all looked very rock and roll but seemed to be lost on the trendy Brick Lane crowd! |
