Default 1976 Ripper Bass bridge saddle?

Hello! New member to the board here. Let me first say I have been in awe of Gibson bass guitar ever since I saw photos Krist Noveselic from Nirvana back in 1994. As I got older and actually started PLAYING bass, my interest in Gibson basses only grew and this past year I was able to get a Grabber (in a good trade, I traded a Korg Poly-800 and got a Grabber!) as well as a Ripper.

However, there is a problem that I'm hoping someone here can help with.

The Ripper is missing the saddle on the bridge where the G string is supposed to be. I have tried ordering them from All Parts, but the saddles are too small to fit in this bridge, so I was curious of anyone knew where to get a vintage 3 point bridge saddle?

Any help would be great, and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Default Saddles

Hi and welcome.

Well generally saddles do come up (with the entire bridge though) on ebay quite often. I think you will find this the easiest source for these, and I don't think any of the aftermarket replacements are exactly the same size. Can anyone confirm this?

You can of course replace the whole bridge (maybe only temporarily until the right parts come up)

Lots of people like these Hipshot Supertone bridges that fit with no adjustment necessary.

Then again someone here may have a saddle spare... anyone?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and replace the bridge. I was really hoping that would not be the case, but it seems to be my only option.

I actually did find one on eBay, with a lot of other Gibson guitar pieces, and at the LAST second someone snipped it from me. I then e-mailed the guy and he said that was the piece he didn't need, and would put it up for auction. Of course, he never did, and now he won't return my e-mails.

Ah well.

New bridge here I come!

I am not familiar with the set up of a ripper bridge.

But I got hold of an beat up Grabber. It didn't have anyy saddels on it.
A local guitar shop had 4 saddels that actually belonged to a 5 string musicman//stingray bass.

Them 4 saddles were a perfect fit for the grabber bridge-bass plate.

I got the saddles quite cheap since it was a 5 string set up with one saddle missing.

That might be something to check out, thanks for the suggestion. I'll talk to the guy I get my guitars repaired at, he might have a suggestion or two.

I can't speak for all Grabbers, but my Grabber doesn't have a 3 point bridge like the Ripper does.

I'll post a pick later this week. And even open a special topic for it (it was a G1 grabber but i've added 2 G3 PU's :-)

But dont get your hopes up. I would never part with the monster!! That grabber is one of the ugliest bass guitars I own. But It's my main axe nowerdays 'cause I simply love that gritty and dirte tone.

Sounds interesting... how have you wired it up? Same as a G3? just single coils?
