Default Sound: Grabber pups

I have a question; How do the Grabber pups sound?

Thank you.

Are you talking about G-1 or G-3?

The Grabber pickups that were also included on the Gibson Explorer Bass. I guess that would be the G3?

No that would be the sliding pickup G-1 Grabber, which has a grinding runchy rock sound, not a clean sound, but sounds great for rock, but not versitle. The G-3 are the three single coil Fenderish sounding pickups

Thanks Redbird!

You are correct the sliding pickups. I have an Epi explorer, early 2000 bass. For my personal taste I am not into the sound of the Epi pups.

I purchased two of the vintage sliding pickups and removed the flap to put on the Epi along with a vintage Gibson Explorer bridge. I was going to upgrade the electronics as well. I am looking for that grinding raunchy rock sound.

My concern and question, Does any one feel the bass will be worth something and value up if left stock? I paid $365 for the bass. It's the ebony model and I am just not into the sound. I did read on another posting someone put the Tbird soap bar pups in their Epi Explorer.

Thanks.

If it's an Epi explorer It's not going to go up much in value. It could, but orient made modern epi's are not drawing much on the resale market. Real Gibson Explorer basses do not go for much.

Actually it was Uwe who put Tbird pups in his Epi Explorer with good results. He was not a fan of the Grabber Pup Gibson Explorer's sound.

Shaggy,

Thanks for the link! The pups look great! What is the word on the sound? You think they would give my Epi Explorer some thunder?
Think I might give them a try and ebay my Grabber Gibson Explorer Pups.

Also:

I have a 77 RD Standard - Ebony Bass. I like it but it does not have the thunder of my 86 Custom Shop Tbird. (Then again my Tbird is not really a great studio bass, I use it live because of its rumbling sound.)

I am at this point again of trying to decide what to do with the RD. It's a really good bass to track with, it reminds me to a degree of a Jass Bass.

Is RD something to hold on to as there are not may out there? I read in an older post, they only made 388 of these basses. Can't remember how many in 77.

Any thanks for all the input. This is a GREAT forum!

Thanks!

Do I understand it corrcetly that you scored two original G1 Grabber pup's?! If those G1 pu's are not wht you're looking for soundwise. Then I'd be intrested in buying the pair....or just one of em.

bey-Wim.
