Default Grabber, G3 and Ripper

Hello. I was wondering if any one can help me out. I have a '78 Ripper and a '75 G3. Both fantastic basses apart from one design flaw... they are both neck heavy the G3 more so. I take it this is the same for the Grabber as well as it is the same setup as the G3.I have seen a few people who have tried to over come this by lowering the base strap button. I've tried this on my G3 and it has made things worse. I was considering a small counter weight on the strap, I dont mine the extra weight on the G3 as its as light as air. Any thought people? Any input is greatly appreciated
Thanks
The Ripper

Default Ripper

Well I vote for the Ripper... though I know many disagree

Have you got your bridge cover on?

I don't find neck heaviness too much of an issue with these.

Hang some excess lead over your strap - rather than going straight to the floor.
You'll need a long heavy lead, but you can use the extra weight that is hanging rather than resting on the floor as a counter-balance

well I vote the G3 for sure. I had a Ripper but there is only one good sound in that bass and that sound is not so outstanding as the G3 sound in my opninion.

I have two G3's right now. One maple and one black alder. Both don't have neckdive. The alder one maybe just a little bit because it's lighter bodyweight., but nothing to worry about.
I love the G3 sound because it is very clear and cuts through everything. I don't like too much boom and mud.

I am selling the maple one, because I like the looks of the black one better. The sound is more or less the same. The maple one being a little bit more aggresive.

I agree with Barend....I only like 1 sound on my ripper. BUT that one sound os super sweet. I dont know if I can say I like it better or worse than the G-3. I think my G-3 has S-1 pickups in it (restoration with greatdealz pickups). Seems WAY hotter and warmer than a G-3. But the tone of the ripper has so much warmth. I dont like the other 3 settings, but #3 is awesome for me. I think thats both parallel.

Thanks for the input but I have to agree that the No. 3 setting on the ripper is the only one i use. I have only had my G3 a week now and I feel it is by far a better sounding bass compared to the ripper. But back to the orginal point, so no one can honestly say they have had not issues with the neck heavy G3? I think I will consider a weight on the strap base.
So not one has mentioned the Grabber, I take it sound wise it does not compare sound wise?

I have never had an issue with neck dive on my G-3 or ripper, but I also use leather straps that are suede on the bottom, so it creates a bit of friction. Maybe try that?

like I said I have two G3's. The maple one is much heavier (really a lot heavier then the maple, maybe two times as heavy) and doesn't have any neckdive at all. The alder one is really light (like yours I guess) and only has a little bit neckdive, but nothing serious. I have had basses like the Epiphone EB3 which have way more neckdive (too much too handle).

One more question about the G3. Last few rehearsals I was experiencing some feedback with my G3. When I didn't touch the strings it started feedbacking right away. I Didn't have this problem with any other bass before.
We don't play extremely loud or so. Anyone ever had the same problem?
