Default Parting out a 2005 SG reissue bass

On ebay here

This is the first one i've seen get parted out. I'm slightly tempted by the body, could make a great project, if it is indeed as good as it looks.

his other parts are here

Wonder why it is being desembled?

I have no clue but if he collects all the BIN's he will have 740$ for it.

Well, the entrails (bridge and neck pup) are with me now! Might prove handy in the future.

Hi, Jules, btw, glad this royal site is back in action!

Would be an even better buy if the dollar rate hadn't dropped so much

What would you do with that though Jules? I thought about it and got stumped. Maybe some Dark Star pups?

Default SG bass

It does seem odd that the part out price is around about the same, maybe a bit less than the going rate for a whole one, yet there seems to be no reason to part it.

I also considered getting the pickups Uwe - the neck would look good in the bridge position of a two mudbucker EB, but more importantly sound a lot different.

But it was the body that I considered most. I just think it would be a good way of making a (custom) EB3 - probably with the various coil splitting options discussed in previous threads. But, because it would not be a fragile vintage instrument I could get the sound I like without worrying about it getting dinged/snapped/stolen.

Exchange rate currently makes this look less appealing just now though, though I still haven't ruled it out completely.

Does anyone know whether old EB parts fit without increasing the pickup routes?

why does he sell all the seperate parts?. He might just as well sell the whole bass for that amount. That will save him a lot of trouble and time.

I'm in agreement with that as I can't help wondering the same. I also wondered about constructing a EB-3 with it just because it's black but it is too high priced for me to do that.

Jules have you not checked your SG reissue cavities for size? Or is that case too far down the bottom of the pile

It seems to me the sellers business idea is to sell Gibson parts for projects and maybe he is just sticking with that idea.

This is how the SG RI pickup looks uncovered. I don't know about the depth but otherwise I guess an EB Mudbucker would fit:

I was also interested, but as stated it's too much money after you add the cost of the parts needed, unless you have them already.

I was watching the pups and then they were gone. A risk I figured on, but I should have figured on who snagged them! There was another SG pup in the UK I think. I suspect parting out makes sense in that there are quite a few SG basses around for sale, but you really can't get the unique parts or carcasses anywhere. So whole ones sit and gather dust, and he moves the pieces fast. I notice the bridge, tuners, pots - the stuff you can get anywhere - are still sitting.
