Default Les Paul Custom Silverburst

Bordering on not being quite vintage but would a 1986 Silverburst Custom have a maple or mahogany neck?

I'm desperately after a 1981 Custom in the Silverburst finish, have crazily let a couple slip through my fingers over the last two years and they seem to have dried up completely now - if anyone knows where there might be one then please let me know! I know it's debatable whether the finish affected the wood which caused the darker tone but having played a 1980 one it was an incredible tone!

The 1983, 1986 and 1988 catalogues all say mahogany

Silverburst paint jobs are very cool looking compared to a regular sunburst guitar.
