Default Need help dating this ripper!

Hi!

ive got a ripper with this Serial: 122913
as far as i know, it is a 73 or a 74, the headstock is stamped, not a sticker.

I would say early seventies, even before '73, but I really don't know enough about it...

hi,
could you upload a picture? The earliest ones were a slightly different body shape, plus the pickups monuted through the pickup itself.

Maybe worth looking at pot codes too, as serial numbers are very misleading at this time.

hi!

Well i dont know whow to Read the pots, and if i know myself, i wont to that at first cause im lazy, haha.

Well its a Really Good Beast, Ive Had an older Ripper which didnt really sound the same, and didnt feel the same in playability.

i dont know if you can tell from live photos, but ill upload some pictures when my camera is fully charged again!

heres some pics and info in the pots.

On two pots it Read 70-208 And 70-201?
on the switch it was something scribbled and i couldnt make it out.
The pickguard is tortoise as you can see.

Not that number. There are 2 sets of #s on those pots, the one that starts with 70 isn't the date code. There's a # that begins with 137. That's the date code number. The 2 digits after the "137" are the year of manufacture. For example "1377345" would be the 45th week of 1973.
Sometimes Gibson soldered over the date code # making it impossible to read.
Looks like your bass has the older, chunkier body shape, so it's an earlier one. Hard to tell for sure from the pic but it also looks an alder body as opposed to maple...the first run are maple. Probably a late '73/early '74.
