anyone here ever have any first hand experience with one of these ?i have seen the old ibanez rocket roll v's,thought they were kind of neat and the one that gibson did in the 80's. but they are pricey and the epiphones are fairly inexpensive, but wondering about the sound and craftsmanship.

I considered one of these once. It is a pretty cool bass, nice construction, and great tone. They have a brass nut, which is odd since it's not 1977... and the strap button is mounted on the side instead of the neck heel. Without a straplock, it just wont work.
I haven't played an actual Gibson V yet, but I hear that they are lacking in the tone department. Besides for the $4000-6000 that they sell for, you could buy two or more really nice basses! |

I've had one for several years, the tone is how I'd imagine a short-scale T-Bird would sound. Plays nice, very well balanced. I enjoy playing it but the case is HUGE.

I "Customized" one for my son. I scored a stripped down "SECOND" body off of Ebay, and added hardware, and a passive EBMM pickup. Placing the thumb on the pickup REALLY helps balance out the Neck Dive. But it SHREDS! It's great for FAST Music, because Sustain is all but non-existant...

I have one I bought when they first came out in I believe 1999, I don't care much for the pickups but other than that it's a good playing bass.
It was well worth the $380 I paid for it. |
