The Grabber II is available here http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....+306313+200988 for example. I'm not sure it will have any effect on value for old Grabbers or Rippers. I also suspect that they will go cheaper than this once they discover that they are no sales success just like the other previous limited run basses like the two different "Monkey" basses.

Yeah, I think they put a stupid price on, so we snap them up when they go up for $1500

One thing I am intrigued about is the 5th varitone setting on the ripper. I'm guessing neck pickup only, but who knows.

I think the neck pickup only would be a nice addition since only two positions of the varitone sound good. The other two suck.

A simple three way switch would be better in my opinion (neck, bridge and both pickups).

About the reissues; please forgive me, but where can I read about the Ripper II ? I've only been able to find info on the Grabber II.

I agree that the Ripper bridge pickup-only sound is aweful. The Out of Phase position is really funky if you put the mid tone on 10, roll off the treble tone to 1 or 2 and play fingerstyle over the bridge pickup. I changed the wiring so instead of bridge pickup only I now have neck pickup only. It sound similar in output to the parrallel setting but with more grind (~1 kHz bump). All you have to do is switch the pickup wires so the bridge pickup wires go to where the neck pickup wires are and vise versa for the neck pickup. It took three soders and gave a 100% improved sound on position 2.
