Default vintage jazz bass bridge and pickup metal cover plates

I am restoring a '65 Jazz Bass.I am missing the bridge cover plate with the big "F" on it.Also the metal pickup cover. My question is how can you tell if one of these plates was made in the 60's,or 70's or even on the first re-issues in the 80's?Or for that matter the current re-issues? I have had 90% favorable experiences buying over the internet, but don't want to get duped by some internet crook.Knowledge is power, they say. I know on some of the 60's ones that they will still have the mute material or signs of where it once was.I am not an expert, but I don't think(and please correct me if I am wrong)any of these were ever nickel. That they were all chromed......so,can anybody help a brother?
