I have an acoustic guitar that was my dad's. My grandmother bought it used in 1929 for my dad. It has Kalamazoo printed on it. I was told that the Kalamazoo brand was bought by Gibson around 1929. I will add pictures once my kids show me how to do it. My question is - does this story sound true? I have to use nylon strings as the guitar does not have any support system in the neck and steel strings cause the neck to bend over time.

Jacksonville Guitar in Jacksonville, Arkansas has an extensive collection of old acoustics, especially small guitars and ukes. You might look them up and see if they can give you some info.
There have been thousands if not tens of thousands of guitar makers in the last century. Its more of the Nostalgia factor and the playability that yield value. Rarity, quality of build and quality of sound sometimes doesn't mean much. Last edited by VOXguy; 11-02-2009 at 10:49 PM. |

Yeah Gibson used the Kalamazoo name back then, and again in the mid to late 1960s
