Hello fellow Ripper owners, I am new to this site and was pleased to see these postings. I am a proud owner a '75 Tabacco burst that I bought off a friend recently. (Serial# is stamped on headstock and pots read 12th week '74,) leading me to believe that this is indeed 1 of 5 from that year. I have been a fan of these odd balls for over 20yrs and finally found one. i will be posting photos very soon. Unfortunatly the pickguard fell victim to 'active gasing". For those of you who have experienced this, it ain't pretty. So I found a replacement. All the pots were corroded, so I had those changed as well. During the process of restoration the bridge pick up got disconnected. With the epoxy nestled in there tightly, the wire can't be re-connected. Is the Seymour Duncan my only hope or does someone know who can fix this bugger?

Hi and welcome
They can be rewound, if you can get all the epoxy out without breaking the (fragile) black plastic covers. I've broken them before in trying this. Maybe best to get some from ebay when they eventually come up (rare, but not stupidly so) Fixing this may be possible, but certainly fiddly. I have had a great deal of trouble with Ripper pickups in the past, because the wires are so thin. Sounds like a nice early bass - looking forward to the pics. |
