Default Ripper help

I have a Ripper that needs to be rewired. Where can I get parts?? All pots are rusted out. I found a pick guard on ebay that i will be ordering soon, but my concern is the re-wiring. The pick ups have the red, orange, and black wires.

Default Gibson Ripper restoration

Hi,

Do you want to just get this working with reliable new pots, or restore with original parts?

Have a look at this page - follow the links, most, if not all the info you need is there, but please ask if you are not sure.
http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bas...r_techinfo.php

Be warned though, the pot values change according to Gibson literature... most likely due to stock control pressures rather than actual circuit changes.

So to comply with the original Bill Lawrence circuit you want 3/4" shafts, and 2 x 250k audio, and 1 x 300k special audio. Gibson parts 70021 and 70028

Those pots are used in a whole range of Gibson guitars (follow the links) so getting originals is not hard with a little patience

Any good guitar parts store (allparts, WD etc) will have equivalent pots in stock if you want them now.

Default Ripper

Thanks! What about the 4 position switch or can I do without it? I just want a basic wiring so I can use it.

Default Four way varitone

The four way varitone is not essential, and you also don't have the tone choke. They do come up on ebay, as does the varitone switch, but you could just as easily use a three way switch, and a standard neck/bridge/both arrangement with a two volumes and a tone. Then when a complete loom comes up you can get that.

The original configuration does not allow for neck pickup alone anyway, so it might be worth trying other options, just to see what you like

Jules

Forget the 4 way rotary. I pulled mine out and put in a 3 way rotary like Jules mentioned. With the neck pickup option I play it even more than I did before.
