Default new member (RD Artist owner) saying hi...

hi y'all...

just been browsing, thought I may as well say hi.

I have a natural RD Artist which I have owned for the last decade - just the finest bass around. Starting to show its age now, but still in great shape for nearly 30 years old. No bad damage, just wearing through the finish where my forearm rubs on the body, and the lacquer on the back of the neck needs a wax job now and again to stop it feeling too rough and sticky. I want Custom Shop money so they could build me a 5-string version!! I play in a metal band, and mostly in Bflat tuning, so the RD gets used rarely recently (hence why its on a stand in the pic) but it does sound remarkably good tuned that low, with the bottom four strings from a 5-string set on it! Low, clear, and punchy! I would use it this way more, but I have a Spector 5-string in Plum on its way (sorry to blaspheme)

anyhow...

Default Supavillian

There is a metal band in Texas called Supavillian & the bass player uses a black RD Artist with great effect.

There are many fans here

Default hi

welcome to the forum,

I'm not sure how much of this is original, but have you seen this 6 string RD on ebay. I've certainly heard rumours of 6 string RDs, but never seen one. There was a modified 8 string in a German shop.

I guess it's an RD standard, but i've no idea whats the full story with this one - looks to be a fun project anyway!

yeah, I did see that one - not sure what to make of it though. The body looks a lot slimmer, more like a Thunderbird, and the neck heel looks, well, wrong! Not as wrong as this though --> http://www.meatexz.com/cheesyguitars/disco.html

oh dear...

anyway, the ebay one is the wrong side of the Atlantic for me, and I can get them closer to home. I would like a black one, I'd also like the miniature RD I saw hanging on the wall of John Entwisle's house once on some TV show, next to a full-size one. It was about 12-14" long, and perfect in every detail

Ah yes, the good old Jolana RD ho (copy is just not a satisfactory word in this case). They made some descent basses considering communist oppression and the associated lack of resources. I was lusting after a Jolana Tele bass a while ago.

... now back to the thread
