unfortunately i am going to have to refinish the body. there was little left of the original finish once the gold spraypaint was removed. does it make any difference to future value whether i have it finished the original walnut or finish in another "original" finish color. i'm guessing to a collector once it has been refinished it has lost all of it's originality value. i don't like the walnut finish but there were so few of them made i don't want to diminish the value by finishing in a color thats different from the sticker. does anybody have any input on this. thanks.

What I would do is finish it the color I want it. The way I see it, a refin is a refin, and that's where the resale value is affected, not that it's refinished in a different color from what the tag says. IMO.

Default Refins

Well, a really well done refin that leaves the serial number unmolested will affect value far less than a badly done refin which removes it. Also, walnut is a translucent finish, and as such will show what condition the wood is in. Has it had breaks, or modifications that have been covered up?

Might be worth seeing what is underneath before chosing a colour.

A badly hacked bass with a solid finish is preferable to a badly hacked bass with a translucent finish.

If the wood is good, i'd certainly do it Walnut.

I don't know about anyone else, but i'd pay (marginally) more for your bass refinned walnut rather than any other finish.
