Default G1 G3 Ripper cases

Do the grabber-ripper series all use the same cases? I assume G1 and G3 do, but is the ripper the same size? Same colour inside?

Default Ripper cases

Hey Jim66:

I have had rippers and grabbers, and they did use the same case, though there are two different kinds. The difference is when they were used, not which model the bass was. The earlier (early to mid-70's) ones are the standard hardshell Gibson cases with purple velvet lining, while the late 70's to very early 80's cases (though the prodiection of these basses did not go very far into the 80's, the case type did for other models) are a much cheaper, though still hardshell case with a dark red (not quite maroon) plush fizzy lining. These cases, in my experience tend to fall apart much more readily. By the way, these cases turn up a lot misdescribed on E-bay. They very often get advertised as EB-0/EB-3 cases. If you pay attention to the dimensions, you can get a pretty good deal (the last one I got was the better, purple-lined version, and I think it was abour $70 shipped to me in Alaska). I hope this is helpful; if you have any more questions, feel free to drop a line.

Happy playing,

Martmouseak

But make sure that case is not too old and features the older Ripper body shape (rounded horns, larger body) common in 73/74. Those cases don't fit the later pointed horn models and vice versa. I only found out when I got my 73/74 Ripper and tried to fit it in a newer case. No such luck.

I thought it was all too easy! Is this the older 74 shape (as the bass is a 74) or the newer one (as the case is not purple). Or does the shape change only apply to rippers?

I know its not one I can buy, but i'd like to get the right one when it comes up!
