Default Standard

Yes, the standard is rarer, but is not as great sounding or as versitle as the Artist model. They are not as sought after as the Artist.

The price is on the high end as I have seen natural RD Artists go for the high $700's

I think you would be happier with an Artist.

Default RD Standard vs Artist

Hi, and welcome

is that $700 in the Netherlands, or $700 before shipping and tax from the USA?

If its the former, then thats not bad for Europe.

If its the latter, i'd probably suggest you wait - hold out for an RD Artist, like Redbird suggested (unless you really want passive electrics)

Its not that there is anything wrong with the standard - just that the artist is so amazing, it really is the one to get

Jules

There is no other bass that comes close to the RD Artist in many respects, weight, sonic versitility and it's one of a kind reliable Moog electronics.

There really is no other bass like it, that I know of?

Above all they are killer in black

I'm 99% sure I missed that Vintage Guitars linked RD (with gigbag) when a private seller had an ad out for 6700SEK. Less than a day later it of course was gone. The next week it popped up (how many do you think is circulating in Sweden? Not many. This one also with gigbag) in that store for 13500SEK.
1 US$ = ca 7.25 SEK 1 Euro = 9.25 Most Gibsons are higher price here than in the U.S.

That's why I jumped on this (with flightcase) for 8000SEK. I did'nt want to miss the opportunity once again.

I'm not so sure that the Artist beats the Standard, I see it more as a tie. Yes, the Artist is active and flexible, but all the sounds you get from it sound severely souped up - this was the stone age of active basses, remember -, it's not a very natural sounding bass. The Standard does sound natural though, clear, but not sterile, with sufficient bass frequencies, but no fluffy ooomph.

Comes down to whether you prefer active or passive I guess.
