Default GIBSON MARAUDER NECK QUERY - help needed!!!!!

Hi
I am looking to buy aGibson Marauder and have been offered a 'natural' 1975 one; the thing is about 5 inches from the back of the headstock you can see a distinct crescent and the two woods are different - its very neat but I cant decide if its part of the design or a repair which is less attractive to me - any experts out there would know???? THANKS!!!!!

Default marauder neck

Can you put pictures to show exactly what you mean?

Is it like this at all?
(these are actually Grabber/G3 bass necks, but they are from the same - the bass equivalent to the S-1 and Marauder)

5 inches from the headstock seems a long way though

Easy repair because everything comes away clean with no jagged edges (done a few myself and I'm no luthier).

Breaks at the joint are very uncommon, or so I'm told by luthiers, since the glue bond is supposed to be stronger than the actual wood.... then again, My friend's accoustic broke right along the joint :

The glue alone should be sufficient to hold it, but just in case I replaced the mouinting screws of the E tuners with longer ones for added security and peace of mind. ... still holding 2 years later.

Default glueing

A very informative post, thanks

can I ask what glue you use? I see Lepage (?) carpentry glue in the picture. Is any carpentry glue good? quick drying? slow drying?
