You got it from that guy in Falköping I guess? I live close to Falköping so I almost bought that one. Would'nt it be possible to buy a Gibson style trussrod from GMF and then have someone steam off the fretboard and have it replaced. Then a refretjob and its done. The trussrod cover may be tricky. I'd settle for a blank cover until maybe with a bit of luck something pops up on Ebay. Did'nt you have it out for sale also recently?
The serial nr would indicate an early example ie '75, but the black cover pickups did'nt turn up until later, perhaps '78-''79 so it's tricky. Maybe it's a parts bass with a '75 neck and '79 electronics? It could be possible that the neck was missing to begin with and someone bought that defretted neck to use but discovered the trussrod was malfunctioning and never got around to fixing it. |

i have a friend who can fix the trussrod for me. shit, i saw a cover for trussrod over on ebay and even contacted him about it. why didnt i buy it...damn cheapskank... well i have it for sale at its current condition, but if i can fix this id looove this bass, been looking for it 5-6years ![]() how much would it cost too refret it? and is it a common thing that the grabbers have two switches? yeah probably something like that ![]() thanx for answering! question in swedish too doom: är "ådringen" något att oroasig över på halsen? vore träligt o göra allt jobb och sen så knäcks halsen, en trummis sa att det kan vara lite känsligt, men kanske inte nån fara? |

The G3's has one pickup switch and I can't say if it's common to install an additional switch but I don't think so. With (ådring) grain pattern I guess you mean what appears to be a crack on the back of neck near the headstock? The trussrod on yours has probably experienced some severe stress from an improper adjustment. The trussrod probably pushed on the back of its routing causing this crack. When the fretboard is off I believe you can try to fill the crack from both sides with epoxy or maybe even regular wood glue. Since the crack goes in the length direction I don't think it will be so much to worry about once glued and you have a proper working trussrod installed.
I'm not sure about the cost to do a refret job but I think 1500 SEK and up. Lars Arvidsson at GNU charges 1950 SEK for a refret job. Are'nt there a lot of skilled people at "Planket" who do great jobs on a hobby basis and maybe you can get away cheaper that way? Good luck on your quest to get that baby back to its past beauty. |

Hi Robin,
What exactly is wrong with the truss rod? Just the tip, or something worse? If its just the tip it can be fixed.... if not...... I'd wait for a neck to come up on ebay - maybe part of a beaten up grabber. I got a neck plus machine heads and trc for $200 earlier this year - which I considered a little expensive, but I still went for it. I doubt you'd get a new truss rod put in for less than that. For example just today I saw a G1 with a buy it now of $399 http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GIBSON-G...QQcmdZViewItem went almost immediately - but if you got that, swapped necks, you could probably make most of your money back, selling the rest as a project bass. You might even make a profit, if you got lucky! |

There are Gibson style trussrods for sale at GMF but I assume they are too short to fit a bass. If it's just the threads then maybe you can rethread it.

the thing is that the trussrod is completly missing.
and i need a substitute rod and if ill find one, doesnt have too be a grabber, just something that has the same measures, and i can get it fixed through a friend. and ill do the refretting later on. |

truss rods are not expensive in themselves
I'm fairly sure this is what you need http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Truss_ro...Truss_Rod.html just $10 The expense comes with all the work - if you have a luthier friend then you are lucky. Certainly not worth removing one from elsewhere - that will just increase the workload! |
