Default Les Paul Triumph /Recording bass switchplate

The switchplate on my 74 Les Paul Triumph bass (the big black switchplate with heat-stamped letters) is cracked at the 1/4 inch jack. I'd love to find a replacement, but really want one that has the lettering (i.e., an old-stock oem piece or one off another LP Triumph bass. Can you help me?
Thanks--
David Brown

I had this same problem.

You're almost SOL. Though they do come up on ebay, it's not very often and usually with some of the electronics attached and there ends up being a bit of a bidding war. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nobody will make you one with lettering like the original. There was one guy I found who would do it with lettering but the cost was close to $100 and the letting would not be in the same font or use the same method.

This is what I ended up doing:

I made a new plate out of aluminium sheet and created the lettering by scanning the original plate, taking the negative and mirror image and printing it out on a regular overhead transparency. The ink is therefore on the underside and won't rub off with wear. The label is held on by the switch/pot nuts and the plate mounting screws.

I can email you the image file and you can do this for yourself.

Your last option (depending on how bad the crack/break is) is to glue the crack back together and reinforce the whole thing with aluminium sheet underneath the original plate.

Hi, My Triumph has a smallchip off at the screwpoint near the jackinput (they tend to crack there). The jack went strongly in and out, and THAT's just the problem.
So I bended the inside of the female-jack somewhat away and it made the jack realy easier to slip in. This works great. I think I'll do it to all my guitars.
Do it before sadness....!

That won't save you if your cord is caught on something (i.e. under someone's foot) and you move or turn - the entire area around the jack will shatter, not even hooking your cable thru your strap will save you in all instances. I recomend my mod to everyone who actually plays their Triumph (vs admiring it as it hangs on a wall) - even if your control plate is mint - especially if it is mint - take it off and use a repro lest it get cracked.

At the bottem line, Granny is right! I didn't think of the cord being a thread in that way too.

Granny, in an other discussion I read you've had a digital copy of the plate. Is it still available? I might produce one underneath...

These are in the negative and backwards (mirror image) to fascilitate printing and use as described above.
