Default i'm new here. got a LP bass

hi, this is my first post here.

i've got a '98 les paul standard with a three-way pickup selector and a three band eq. the sound is very dark and bass is very heavy. i've almost completely retired it due to the comfort and ballsy sound i get from my jazz bass.

what is the general consensus about these basses? are they well liked?

yes, i look young for my age! :D

Default Les Paul Bass

Hi, and welcome to the forum...

yes thats a very nice looking bass. Black, chrome and white binding are a killer combination!

so its the weight thats the main problem for you? Theres not that much that can be done there really!

Yeah they are well liked - perhaps not as much as the Thunderbirdin terms of sales, but when things don't sell, Gibson discontinues them - and this model has been available for 15 years now, if i'm not mistaken.

Default LP's

Welcome I like mine a lot. Great ballsy tone. The newer chambered bodied ones are lighter. I weighed mine on a bathroom scale and seems to be around 8 pounds +.

If you like the bass but just not the weight I suggest you sell it and buy the newer lighter one.

Those black LPs sell pretty well, around $1200. LP's hold their value well.

Wow... this is a nice bass! What is the weight of this bass, since it seems to be your problem?
Do you prefer the sound of the JB?

I have a PB (1973) and when I compare the sound, my Les Paul (Triumph) sound way better than the (only one) sound from the Fender.

I like the Les Pauls, and have been looking for one in black just like yours. I currently have a 5 string that is a 1994 model with active pickups. If you want to sell your black one let me know please. I would love to buy it.
Here is my 5.

that is a stunning five-string!

as far as my comfort goes, the LP was my main axe for years and it was fine. i had played tons of shows and two rehearsals a week with that bass, so i was used to the weight. but when i broke a string, i began using my backup jazz. it just was more comfortable - especially when playing with a pick. plus the neck profile seemed easier to play. at that point i added some tough-sounding pickups and swapped the bridge on the jazz and that's when the LP went into the case. seems i only bring it out on special occasions. the tone controls are flexible with the three-band eq, but there is no pickup blend. it's either only front, back or both. BUT it still sounds cool!

i'm feeling like it's time to start playing the LP again!

Default Blackies

Blackies are rare with the toggle . It would be a very easy bass to sell.

Killer 5 string Les Paul you got there.

Thanks. I love the 5 string as well and it was a hard beast to find!!
I used to own a 1998 Les Paul Standard just like your black one except mine was cherry sunburst. I would love to get hold of a black one like yours someday.
