Default Unidentified 1970s Shortscale Bass HELP!! ( edit: SB300 )

I have a strange looking 1970s Gibson Bass that had incorrect hardware in it. I've taken it all apart (because it was a crappy job). I want to either fix it or sell it. It's really cool, but I can't find out what it is! I can send photos if someone is an expert out there!! knoland@cyberlodg.com

Default SB300

Hi Kevin,

its an SB300

It does look in quite good condition - however finding the parts may be hard - it had different pickups and bridge to most other Gibson basses (except the longscale version the SB400) and so they don't come up on ebay much. I suspect that is why the person put in the parts they did.

You may be able to find a buyer for the body, (make sure you show there is no extra routing) or you could buy a broken/beaten SB 300, steal the parts and sell on the other body.

Its a nice start to a project, but could take some time to finish!

Jules

I am not a big fan of messing with Gibson basses, but God love whomever as they took the time to NOT f that one up. Same holes for the pups and control plate. A good soul. Good luck with that.

Default Giving it a try on Ebay

I appreciate all of your help guys. My wife says "It's got to go. Put it on Ebay." We'll see what it does out there. I had 29 views in less than 8 hours overnight and two messages when I got up this morning. Thanks again!

They had their own bridge. Not a bad design as far as Gibson goes.

yeah this is the difficulty, they used parts not on other Gibsons, so you need to scour Ebay ruthlessly to find them. They do come up, but over time....

Probably best to keep the parts its got so you can play it, until the happy day that you see the originals. A lot of people here scour ebay, so if you hang around, and remind us ocasionally i'm sure we'll let you know...
