Default SG Reissue vs EB3?

Hello everyone
I'm hoping someoine has had an opportunity to play the new Gibson SG reissue bass and give me (us) a sincere response on what they thought.

What is the difference between the Ephiphone EB3's and the new SG Reissue?
Is it the same guitar just relabeled?

The most noteable difference is of course the missing 4 position switch and the second set of tone and volume controls.
I have a Epi EBO that I dislike as it is nowhere near the quality and sound of my 60's EBO.

Has anyone played the Reissue and would it be worth the money to buy one or spend a few hundred more and get an origanl EB3?

Hi Cream fan ...

I've ordered the new SG Reissue and am anxiously awaiting its arrival ... it will cost me (with tax) just under $1500.00 Canadian. I had an Epiphone EB3L but traded it away; I prefer the shorter scale, and also found the Epi was pretty cheaply made. The next step up is the Epiphone EB3 Elite, which is a few hundred bucks less than the Gibson; personally I like the absense of the four-way switch on the new Reissue, and think it will make for easier volume controlling (see Glenn Cornick's article about some of his suggestions for improving on the EB3).

When I get my Gibson I will definitely post an honest assessment, though I'm quite easy to please and have always loved Gibson basses ( and am rather the fool for having parted with a mint EB3 and a lovely two-pickup EB2 in my younger days!!!) I have an old Pre and an American Jazz 5-string deluxe (to all you Gibsonites, I swear I am not a traitor ... !!!!!) which have great tone/feel for recording; I can't wait to get the Gibson though, since my hands are smallish and better suited to a short-scale EB3.

I'd like to hear your take on the Epiphones as well as your experiences with Gibson.

Cheers, Seano.

Default new EB3

when are you expecting the EB3 to be delivered?

They are not out here (UK) until September. I must admit I am tempted, but I think i'll try one first, before buying. I'm also tempted by the Thundebird studio - but again, i'll try one first

Jules

Probably also September here in Canada ... I've heard rumours about July but it's nearly August ... we shall see.

Default SG Bass

I got mine 8/6. I love it. It may look a lot like an EB3, but the TB pickup gives it a whole different vibe. Less mud, less boom, but plenty of bottom. It sounds, plays & looks great. I hope you guys get to check one out soon.
