Default Kalamazoo Bass guitar

Hi gang: I'm new to this sit but not to music. I have a question about the Kalamzoo bass I have used for over 30 years playing in both a county and now a polka band. I purchased the bass (white) in the earlyu 1970's . It is a short scale model and a very easy guitar to play as only a touch on the strings make the note and playing runs is quite easy. I understand Gibson made this guitar in Kalamazoo Michigan but know nothing else of it's histroy.I team it up with a Peavy Combo 300 and get good results with a solid bottom that carry's well into the larger dance halls we now play in. Any info on this old gem would be appreciated.
Thanks, Muzicmaker

Default kalamazoo bass

There were 2 models - both featuring Gibson hardware on a chipboard body with a bolt-on neck. The Gibson humbucker gives plenty of rumble despite the bolt-on neck. I own a KB1 which sounds pretty good to me

The shipping figures for the KB1 (EB0 style)

year 66 67 68 69
red 739 1312 523 193
white 1347 501 290
blue 897 342 143

dont have figures for the KB2 which has a more fender shaped body (offset cutaways) - and these figures stop at 69 - not sure how much longer they were made

I hope to get some pics on the site soon. Do you have a KB1 or 2?

Jules

I've got one of the SG style (KB1?) in pelham blue, my favorite Gibson color. Much better buy these days then a real EB-0 or EB-3 which are priced way too high as far as I'm concerned. Sounds just as good as an EB-0, the pickup obliterates the acoustic character of the bass anyway...might be the only case where the body woods have no impact on the tone :D

I've been thinking about looking for a white and red one just for kicks.

Default KB1

yes mines white - and I was surprised how EBO it sounds. I guess the humbucker really does define the sound.

Anyone seen the Rickenbacker 4005 on ebay with a Gibson humbucker? I doubt that sounds like an EB0, but who knows., I'd certainly love to hear it
