Default Scored an incomplete LP body today

My Gibson dealer promised me an LP body/neck that hadn't had hardware installed a month or two back and it finally came in. I took one look at and grabbed it up. I'll be putting all chrome hardware on it, Fralin BassBucker pups and those fat ole cloverleaf tuners! Should fun!

Where are these things coming from? That is kind of like the one that floated out to ebay a couple of weeks ago, with the finish partially buffed out but no hardware. It seems like an employee is smuggling, no? Yeah, it would be great if you could buy partially done basses. It would be cool if they would skip the routing, and you could stick a mudbucker in there too.

Well, this one is dated 1998, so I suspect they were stuck in the back of a storage bin and someone decided, properly or not, to dispose of these things. It isn't a second as far as I can tell. The two dings could have been from smugglers mishandling it!

It would be cool if you could get a bass in any phase of production that you wanted, but Gibson would make less money and lose control over the final product!

How 'bout a pirate for a headstock logo? Being that it's smuggled, you know.

I don't know how it happens either, but obviously it does. The owner of a repair shop in Texas somehow got two partially finished T-bird bodies in the early 90s. No logos but had the Gibson serial numbers stamped on the headstock. He installed two MusicMan pickups in each, finished and sold them.

Yep, I've been lucky with these basses. I still have my 2003 naked T Bird to finish. That one's just like the LP; no hardware ever installed.
