Default 1973 TRIUMPH

Hi first post on the forums.

Been reading a bit and i would say all of you have about a million times more experiance than me with the Bass i just picked up.

Truth is i just bought it at an auction. It needs some work but maybe someone here would like to restore it of give some advice on who/where to sell it to?

This is what i know from research. Its a Gibson Triumph and from the pots i figured it was a 1973- 1377314. I cant make out the first number in the serial number but the last 5 are 01049.
Has the case, which is pretty traveled, but intact.
The head there is cracked pretty good, I think it can be fixed.

I took a bunch of pics. Let me know if you want to see anything in particular.

PM me for contact info.

Default Triumph

Hi Flu and welcome

the Triumph is well respected here - so you are in good company. The neck is thin, and headstock repairs are common. Likewise the input is weak and often breaks where yours has. Unfortunately this means replacement control covers get snapped up at high prices.

Why are you selling? don't you like it?

It will sell easily enough on ebay, its just a question of how much you want for it.

I'll move this post top the buy/sell section in a day or two

Yep, they are popular. I have a 72 and I'd buy a busted one to fix for sure, but my limit on one like this would be $600-700. Resale on repaired basses is low, of course!

I hate to say it, but with the unrepaired break it will likely fetch more if you parted it out.

Each pickup alone will get $100-150.

The bridge will get another $80-100.

The bridge cover, another $50-100.

The control plate and guts will get $200-300 (some parts in there are irreplacable) and you may get something for the body/neck. The tuners will fetch maybe $20-40.

The market is soft (rebounding from vacation time right now) and Triumphs in much better condition than yours have been going for just over $1000. I doubt you'd get more than $800 for it as a whole (if that) - I wouldn't pay more than 600 (repairing the crack and overspray could easily cost $300 - more if you do a full refin... and then there's the control plate).

Actually, I doubt the case would fetch that much today. $100 on the outside, but ya, I did forget to mention it.

I'd be tempted to buy this but it's bad financial timing for me. ... and I just bought a pair of Triumph pups, if only I'd known about before I pulled the trigger on those.

Lemme know if you do decide to part it out. I'd be interested in the gurts and I know someone looking for a replacement tuner (and maybe a pup).
